About this place
Diners who order the katsu curry have praised its balanced heat, tender pork cutlet and generous portion, with plenty of rice. At CAFE JEUNO, the curry draws its flavour from vegetables such as slowly sautéed onions and tomatoes, then gets a mellow finish from milk. As the menu describes it, sweetness gives way to a lingering warmth, making this a good choice when you want something gentler than a fiercely hot curry, but not entirely mild. The katsu curry comes with rice, soup and a small salad for ¥1,150. Chicken curry, which lets the sauce take centre stage, is ¥930; choose between the two depending on whether you want the added substance of a cutlet.
For something a little less expected, try the chicken and potato nikujaga-style doria. Chicken, potatoes, carrots and onions are baked with white sauce and cheese, alongside rice and shredded nori; the dish comes with a small salad. One diner said they particularly enjoyed this doria. It offers a different way to savour the sauce and ingredients together from the katsu curry. The creamy pumpkin bread gratin is another hearty option: house-made bread is served with pumpkin sauce and white sauce, along with pumpkin, bacon, onion and cheese. It also comes with a small salad, and one customer reported that it was filling alongside a katsu sandwich.
For a sandwich with plenty of substance, choose the katsu sando, made with thick-cut pork cutlet and cabbage in house-made sauce, or the clubhouse sandwich layered with bacon, teriyaki chicken, a fried egg and vegetables. Both cost ¥1,300. Egg salad or tuna with vegetables make lighter sandwich choices at ¥930.
Breakfast, brunch and lunch are all on offer, so the café can fit a range of mealtimes. After a meal, there’s baked cheesecake with a touch of rum, or a gâteau au chocolat made with bittersweet chocolate and roughly crushed chocolate pieces. Drinks include coffee and tea, as well as chai and soda made with house-made plum syrup.
